A business pays a commission when your guest actually becomes a customer. You take 70%, Hostbnb takes 30%. It's a split of the commission, never of what your guest paid — and your guest never pays more for coming through you.
Worked example
- Guest books a ¥20,000 tour.
- Operator pays a 15% commission: ¥3,000.
- You receive ¥2,100. Hostbnb receives ¥900.

Nothing is payable the moment a guest taps a link. A commission confirms only after your guest completes the service and the refund window closes, so what you see as confirmed is money that can't evaporate.

Our things-to-do pages show what travellers actually book in each city — tours, day trips, tickets and transfers. Every one of those is a booking your guest makes anyway, and a channel a local partner will pay you to send.
Your recommendations stay yours
A recommendation a guest can't trust is worth nothing to anyone — not to the guest, not to the business, and certainly not to you. So the product keeps four things visibly apart:
- Host recommendation — Personally selected by you. No commercial relationship.
- Nearby option — Surfaced by relevance. No commercial relationship.
- Partner offer — Pays a referral commission — and says so, on every card.
- Sponsored — Paid placement, clearly labeled as such.
Ranking runs on distance, availability, guest language, ratings, your approval and relevance to what the guest asked. Payment is one signal among many and can never be the only one. Every paying relationship is disclosed in the guest's own language, as Japanese advertising rules require.

Questions hosts ask
- Does it cost anything to join?
- No. Partner marketplace access is included on every Hostbnb plan, including the free pilot. There is no partnerships add-on and no extra fee — Hostbnb earns only when you do.
- How much do I earn?
- You keep 70% of the commission a business pays; Hostbnb keeps 30%. That is a split of the commission, never of what your guest paid. On a ¥20,000 tour paying a 15% commission (¥3,000), you receive ¥2,100.
- When do I get paid?
- A commission is confirmed once your guest has completed the service and the provider's refund window has closed — typically seven days. Confirmed earnings are paid out monthly, or credited against your Hostbnb invoice if you prefer.
- Do my guests know a recommendation pays a commission?
- Yes, always. Partner offers are labeled as partner offers, and sponsored placements as sponsored, in the guest's own language. Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency requires an advertising relationship to be recognizable, and hiding one would cost you the trust that makes your recommendations worth anything.
- Do partners replace my own recommendations?
- No. Your personal picks stay their own section on the guest page. Partner offers sit separately below them, ranked by distance, availability, language, ratings and your approval — never by payment alone. You choose every partner that appears.
- Can I partner with a business I already recommend?
- That's the point. Invite them from your dashboard and we'll set up the offer page, QR code, tracking, billing and monthly payout. Most hosts already have these relationships informally; this makes them trackable and paid.
- Who does my guest pay?
- The business, or the booking platform it already uses. Hostbnb is the referral layer — we don't sell the tour, collect the money, or become the travel agent.
