Before you start
- A stable URL you want guests to reach (house manual, guidebook, or concierge link)
- A printer, or a print shop for a durable sign
What you'll end up with
A tested, well-placed QR code that takes any guest straight to your property info in one scan.
Hostbnb generates a QR code for every property's guest page automatically, so guests can reach your concierge and recommendations by scanning — no separate tool needed.
Steps
- 1
Pick one durable destination URL
Point the code at something that won't change — your concierge/guidebook link, not a specific document that might move. A stable URL means you never reprint.
- 2
Generate the QR code
Use any reputable QR generator (or Hostbnb's built-in one). Export at high resolution so it stays crisp when printed large.
- 3
Size it for scanning
Bigger is more reliable. Aim for at least ~3 cm (1.2 in) square for close-up scans, larger for a wall sign. Keep a quiet margin of white space around it.
- 4
Add a one-line label
'Scan for Wi-Fi, check-in & local tips' tells guests why to scan. A code with no context often gets ignored.
- 5
Place it where the question happens
By the door for check-in, near the router for Wi-Fi, on the fridge for the manual. Put the answer where the guest is standing.
- 6
Test on iOS and Android
Scan it with both an iPhone camera and an Android camera from arm's length. Confirm it opens the right page and loads on mobile data, not just your Wi-Fi.
Laminate or use a weatherproof material for anything outdoors or in a bathroom. A faded, peeling code reads as a neglected property.
Troubleshooting
The code won't scan
Increase its size, add white margin around it, and improve lighting/contrast. Very small or low-contrast codes fail on older phones.
It opens a broken page
Use a stable URL and test on mobile data. If you linked a document that later moved, point future codes at a permanent landing page instead.
Guests don't scan it
Add a short label explaining the benefit and place it exactly where the relevant question arises.
Every Hostbnb property comes with a scan-to-ask QR code out of the box.
